Obituary

Bertie Grace Hatfield Flatt, age 82, of Kilmichael, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Bertie was born on November 14, 1943, in Almyra, to the late Harvey Chester Hatfield and Mary Jane Barnett Hatfield. She grew up in Stuttgart, where she graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1961.

On January 8, 1966, she married the love of her life, Tolly Ira Flatt, Jr. They shared 47 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Bertie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was affectionately known as "G" to her grandchildren and "GiGi" to her great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her children, Leigh DeNoon of Kilmichael, Mississippi, Todd Flatt (Trisha) of Brandon, Mississippi, and Stephen Flatt of Kilmichael, Mississippi; her sisters, Martha Hosto of Roe, and Ann Puleo (Dave) of Houston, Texas; her brothers, Marshall Hatfield of Little Rock, and Larry Hatfield (Debbie) of Starkville, Mississippi. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chase DeNoon (Haley), Cassidy Carter (Zachary), Sarah Grace Perkins (Justin), Lynsey Flatt, Drew Flatt, Tyler Edwards (Gabriella), and Mattox Flatt and her great-grandchildren, Jack Harvey DeNoon, Hank Morgan DeNoon, Emery Taylor Carter, and Ann Bradley Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Hubert Hatfield, Claude Hatfield, Raymond Hatfield, Harvey Hatfield, James Edward Hatfield, and Hattie Jo Hatfield.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Catherine Hudson for the loving care and support shown to Bertie.

Bertie will be remembered for her deep love for her family and the special joy she found in being "G" and "GiGi" to those who meant the most to her.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home in Cabot, with visitation from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. and the service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Sixteenth Section Cemetery in Austin with Zachary Carter officiating.
