Carlos "Gene" Eugene Smith, 85, of Cabot, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.  He was born September 12, 1938 in Butlerville to the late Burrel and Mary Edith Williams Smith.  Gene grew up on the family farm and was the tenth child of Burl and Edith Smith.  He graduated from Cabot High School in 1956. As a young man, he spent time as a truck driver.  Years ago, he was also a volunteer for Cabot Volunteer Fire Department and a proud member of Cabot Kiwanis. Gene was the owner of Smith Diesel and Wrecker Service of Cabot.  He came from a generation of hardworking Americans and he loved working and helping people. He worked faithfully every day without complaint. Due to illness over the last year, he lost his eyesight and had to stop driving wreckers.  Gene was a faithful servant and member of Victory Baptist Church for many years.  You could see his sweet spirit in his kind and loving heart.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lottie Stubbs, Dorothy Dube, Adlee Straton and Madge King and brothers, Alvin Smith, Julius Smith, Jimmy Smith and Sam Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory and to miss him dearly are his children, Tami Grable-Tindall (Roger), Carlos Smith (Diane), Bart Smith, Michael Smith (Morgan) and his honorary son, Todd Courson (Paula); extended family, Alan Courson (Karen) and Dorinda Atkins (Shelby); seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Bass (Carl); brothers, J.B. Smith and Gary Smith (MaryAnn), as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot with Brother Ben Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Butlerville Cemetery in Ward.  Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home.
