Donald "Don" Reed, a proud veteran of the US Army, passed away June 17, 2021 at the age of 82. Don was born January 27, 1939 in Wardensville, West Virginia. At the age of 18, Don enlisted in the US Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major. A highly decorated veteran, Don received an Occupational Medal (Berlin), Expert Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle, National Defense Service Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Commendation Medal (2D Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal (7 th Award) and Air Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster).
Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His sense of humor and quick wit brought happiness to many people. He possessed a special quality which made every person he encountered know how special they were to him. He lived his life fully, enjoying days spent on the golf course, trying his luck at video poker and spending time with his beloved family.
Don will forever be remembered and cherished by his wife, Isella; children, Donna (Don), Robert (Cindi), Richard (Courtney) and Angelique (Wayne); stepdaughter, Tammy (Kevin); grandchildren, Roy, Ricky, Britney, Arianna, Leonard, James, Cody, Heathre and Cassandra and a number of great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, twelve siblings and stepson, Danny.
Don was a fighter and he faced his illness with strength, courage and grace to the very end.
A service honoring the life of Don will be held at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. (visitation 10:00 a.m.). A committal service with military honors will follow at Mountain Springs Cemetery on Hwy 5 under the direction of Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Shriner's Children Hospital be made in Don's honor. Here is the link: https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/
