Obituary

Dorothy Ann Mitchell Skinner, 80, of Austin, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020. She was born May 30, 1940 in Ashburn, Georgia to the late Roy Harvey Mitchell, Sr. and Frances Luthera Ellerbee Mitchell. Ann attended Albany High School where she excelled in sports, lettering in tennis and basketball. She remained a big fan of women's basketball throughout her life.

Ann married Harold Glenn Skinner, an Arkansas native stationed at a nearby Air Force base, in 1958. She was a devoted wife and mother who saw her two children through numerous moves over the course of her husband's military career. When Harold retired from the military, they settled in rural Arkansas where Ann added gardening to her growing list of talents.

When Harold became ill, Ann decided to enroll in college as a non-traditional student. Widowed at 47, she went on to earn an AA in art from ASU-Beebe and a BS in social work from what was then known as Arkansas College. Ann worked for the state health department in several counties of Northwest Arkansas as a hospice social worker, retiring in 2002.  In retirement, Ann visited and traveled with her family and close friends, continued her artistic pursuits and, of course, was regularly seen working in her yard and garden.

Ann is survived by her two children, Harold (Linda) Skinner, Jr. and Francis Skinner; her siblings, Roy (Sharon) Mitchell, Jr. and Vicki (Larry) Richardson, and her grandson Lenard. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and David Akridge.

Due to COVID-19, the family will schedule a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
