Frances Elaine (Wilcox) Nedeau, age 82, of Cabot, passed away at her home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, February 12, 2022. She was born April 21, 1939 in Portland, Maine to the late Herbert Wilcox, Sr. and Addie (Drost) Wilcox. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her only son, Michael Nedeau; sisters, Irene Bryan and Patty Wilcox and one brother, Charles Wilcox.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Stephen H. Nedeau; three daughters, Valerie Nedeau Shunk (David), Sharon Nedeau Pickens (Stephen), and Suzanne Nedeau Kline (Tony); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Wilcox Schumacher (John); brothers, Herbert Wilcox, Jr. (Kay) and John Wilcox (Marilyn); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Frances loved her family and enjoyed spending time with as many as she could. She grew up in northern Maine working in the potato fields every year during potato harvest and had the reputation for being an excellent potato picker. She worked at J.J. Newberry in retail for a number of years before becoming employed at Potato Service Company in Presque Isle, Maine. Frances loved to learn. She returned to high school to earn her highschool diploma, attending night school, while being a full-time working woman. She enjoyed talking to the older generation and became interested in helping them. This discovery lead her to pursue her certificate of nursing assistant at the Presque Isle Vocational and Technical School. She pursued the program while fully employed and graduated with her CNA certification. We all were so proud of her determination and commitment to bettering herself and helping others. Frances went on to become employed as a certified nurse's assistant at a nursing home and assisted living center. She eventually moved back to southern Maine where she became the supervisor of laundry services for the Sheraton Hotel until she quit her job to care for her mother until her mother passed away.

Her love for learning carried over to fiber arts and ceramics. She attended several ceramics classes learning the process of pouring molds and then removing and finishing them. She enjoyed the process so much she went on to purchase her own kilns and began to make and sell some of her ceramics. Being left-handed in a right-handed world never deterred her from teaching herself some fiber arts. From knitting and crochetingwith yarns making socks, mittens, and even sweaters and moving on to fabrics to sew clothes for us kids and herself. Later in her life, she went on to make double wedding ring quilts for family and most of her grandchildren, before Dementia stole this creative outlet from her and those who loved her talent. Frances will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
