Frances Ann Tipton Shults was born Wednesday September 7, 1938 in England, Arkansas. She moved to San Pedro, California with her parents in 1948. At age 16, she met the love of her life Neal Shults while attending San Pedro High School. She graduated in 1955 from San Pedro High School, then attended L.A. Harbor College. After graduation, she worked for Dr. Robert Frie in San Pedro. She married Neal on June 22, 1957 at the Presbyterian Church in San Pedro. In 1958 their daughter Sheryl Diane was born, followed by Susan Carol in 1965. She and Neal moved to Long Beach CA in 1962 after Neal became a firefighter with the Long Beach Fire Dept. They raised their daughters in Long Beach, and Fran became involved in PTA, was a Room Parent, and was also a dedicated Girl Scout Leader. She also worked for the Long Beach Unified School District at Lowell Junior High and Longfellow Elementary School. Fran and Neal enjoyed many trips to Catalina on their boat, and later travelled frequently to Lake Powell. After Neal's retirement from the LBFD, they moved to Camarillo CA, where they enjoyed volunteering for Channel Island Naturalist Corps., where she served as "Whaler Emailer" (Providing education regarding whales and answering questions via email). She and Neal also enjoyed traveling during that time. In 2005 they moved to Foley Alabama. They enjoyed volunteering for Share the Beach and the State Park Turtle Team for 16 years. Fran loved Neal dearly, and was a dedicated and faithful wife and mother. She took pride in being a planner and all the work that this entailed. She enjoyed singing as a child, and played the piano. She was positive, kind, organized, an encourager, and was very generous with family and friends.She is survived by her husband, Neal Shults of Foley, Alabama, daughter, Sheryl (John) Rowe of Long Beach, California, daughter, Susan (Glenn) Craft of Saraland, Alabama, and grandchildren James (Kerry) Rhodes, Benjamin (Jennifer) Rhodes, Daniel Rhodes, Matthew Rhodes, Brennon (Raven) Garcia, and Lauren (Baylie) Garcia, as well as 6 great grandchildren Adam, Theresa and Kenny Rhodes, Caden, Oaklynn and Lizzie Pemberton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Archie Tipton and Pearl Elsie (Gash) Tipton, and by her brother Densial Tipton of Cabot, Arkansas.Fran's memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023 at Pine Rest Mortuary (16541 Hwy 98 Foley AL 36535). A reception at the home of Neal Shults will take place immediately following the service. Inurnment will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2023 in Cabot, Arkansas.
