Obituary

Fred Andrew Wood, 84, of Cabot went to be with the Lord on 9 March 2022.  Fred was born to Fred H. and Juanita Sisson Wood on December 4, 1937.  He attended Cabot Public Schools where he excelled in academics and sports, and went on to play football for Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway.  There, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business.  He continued his studies at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating with a Master's Degree in Business Administration.  Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Finance Officer stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia where he met the love of his life, Nancy Jones, from Hopewell, Virginia.  They married on October 12, 1963 and, upon his discharge as a Captain, returned to Cabot to begin their life together.  Fred and Nancy have three children: Lisa Renee, Fred Andrew II, and Lara Michelle.  He was a loving, gentle, but firm father who led by example with honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic. He enjoyed many years of working with his father at Wood's Feed Store and raising cattle and turkeys; and for a few years, owned Cabot Lumber Yard.  He loved fishing, country music, playing cards, and being outdoors; as well as entertaining friends and family by grilling steaks or frying fish; but he loved his wife and family above all else.

Until 2018, Fred could be found six days a week at the feed store working alongside his sister, Bettye, and Jackie Mahoney, who became like a son to him.  He loved his Cabot community and visiting with its members; and those who knew the right buttons to push, could always count on a spirited debate.

The thought of retirement was a very difficult concept for Fred.  However, at the age of 80, health issues made the decision for him.  His mind as sharp as ever, he began reading books that he had never had time to read and found that he enjoyed the slower pace.  Still up at the crack of dawn and always an avid nature lover, he spent countless hours watching the birds, squirrels, raccoons, deer, and the changing of the seasons.  This season of change for those of us left behind will be challenging, but we know he will be welcoming us when our times come.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Juanita Wood, his maternal grandparents, Frank and Amy Garner Sisson, his paternal grandparents, Horace "Sam" and Lucy Herrod Wood, and a bonus grandson Alex Fletcher.

Left to cherish his memory are:  Nancy, his wife of 58 years, daughters and son, Lisa Fletcher  (Rob), Fred Wood II (Sarah), Lara Wood, grandchildren Rachel Gallogly, Andrew Gallogly, Fred Andrew Wood III (Grace), William Wood, David Wood, Jacob Wood, bonus grandchildren John Adam Fletcher (Chelsey), Jason Fletcher (Breanna), and eight bonus great grandchildren, sister Bettye Schelle (Bob), many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as honorary son Jackie Mahoney, honorary daughters, Shannon Bob Tipton and Roxanne Wetzler; and not to be forgotten his beloved dog Chloe and granddog Lucy.

Services will be held in the chapel at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 700 N. 2 nd Street, Cabot, Arkansas.  Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18th, and the funeral service will be Saturday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. with Stubby Stumbaugh officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt.
