Obituary

Frederick Carl Schmidt, III, 83, of Cabot, passed away April 16, 2023. He was born June 21, 1939, in Hampton, Virginia to the late Frederick C. Schmidt Jr. and Ruth S. Staples Schmidt. He joined the Navy at an early age and retired in 1979 as a chief petty officer. Carl, as he was known by all, continued to stay connected to the military as a long-time member of the USSVI. He served as the first base Commander for the USS Razorback and served on the committee to obtain the Razorback and bring it to Little Rock. He served as the Vice President for the USSVI and Chaplain. Carl was also a 32nd degree Mason, a DeMolay Dad, and a Shriner. He was an umpire for the GSA for over 25 years. Carl went back to college where he obtained his degree as a registered nurse.  He worked with children who had cancer until he transferred to the North Veterans Hospital where he cared for his veteran brothers for fifteen years. Carl's hobbies included needlepoint work, stamp and coin collecting, and woodworking. He loved to do scroll work. He and his wife, Bonny, had a craft business called Bonny N Clyde's Crafts where they traveled all over selling his scroll work.  In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Robert.

Survivors include his wife, Bonny Marie Schmidt, of Cabot; daughters, Victoria Becker of San Diego, Cheryl Blansett and son-in-law, James of Little Rock, Melanie Davis and son-in-law, Todd of Romance, Arkansas; grandsons, Patrick and Kristopher Becker of San Diego, Hunter and Michael Davis of Beebe; great- grandchildren, Brayden and Natalie Becker of San Diego, Micah Davis of Beebe; brother, William Schmidt and sister-in-law, Becky Schmidt of Painter, Virginia, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be 12:00 noon, Friday, March 8, 2024, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
