Garland Hughes, 85, of Cabot, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023.  He was born May 14, 1937 in England, Arkansas to the late George and Maulcie Hughes.  Garland proudly served his country for seven years in the United States Air Force.  He served the State of Arkansas on the State Police Force for twenty-nine years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1994.  During his tenure, Garland was instrumental in the construction of the radio communication towers for the State Police.  If you were lucky enough to know him, you would remember his big personality.  If you were lucky enough to be loved by him, you knew he would always have your back – no matter what.

Garland is survived by his wife, Brenda Hughes, who has been the love of his life for thirty years; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and David Adamson of Freeport, Florida; step-daughters, Terri Fugate and Toni Oody of Loudon, Tennessee; step-grandchildren, Magen Gunter, Emily Oody and Kaleb Fugate; step-great-grandson, Milo Gunter; special mother-in-law, Macie Huggins, as well as many extended family members and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, his half-brother and four half-sisters.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2023 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home followed by the funeral services at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be 2:00 p.m., Friday at Pee Dee Cemetery in Clinton.  If you would like to make donations in memory of Garland Hughes, the family suggests Cabot Animal Shelter, 2951 S. 1 ^st St., Cabot, AR  72023.  Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
