George Edward Whitney, 75, of Cabot went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 1, 2025 while on vacation in Kentucky. George was born December 14, 1949 in Harper, Kansas to the late George W. and Agnes F. (Giesen) Whitney. Mr. Whitney enjoyed traveling, fishing, horse racing and watching Kansas City Chiefs football. He was an avid history buff who read the Bible from cover to cover at least twice. He was also a hardworking man, owning and operating several businesses with his wife, Dixie. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitney was preceded in death by son, Tony Whitney; and sister, Barbara Whitney.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of twenty-five years, Dixie (Reiff) Whitney; children, Jason "Louie" (Amy) Whitney, Amanda "Jane" Whitney, Leah "Lelah" Whitney, Angelina Whitney, and Emiliano Whitney all of Cabot, Josh (Sandy) Whitney, and Jody (Thuy) Whitney of Texas, along with fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Other survivors include siblings Linda (Lester) Dent of Kansas, Nancy Whitney of Texas, Lloyd (Glenda) Whitney of Texas; sisters and brothers in law, DeAnn (Dave) Holland of Iowa, Denise (Don) Myers of Iowa and Doreen (Brian) Buelt of Illinois, and close family friend, Linda Thomas; along with a host of extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be 2:30pm, Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:30pm.
Jason Whitney, Nate Whitney, Josh Whitney, Jody Whitney, Son Nguyen and Miguel Barrientos will serve as pallbearers. Jay Smith will be an honorary pallbearer.
