Herman Leon Smith, of Lonoke, formerly of Quitman, passed away September 13, 2026 at home. Leon was of the Baptist faith. He was 90 years old and so proud to have reached that milestone last February. Leon was born February 5, 1936 to Louie Leon Smith and Irene Pounders Smith. Herman (Leon) was raised in Grady, Arkansas by his parents, Louie Smith and Warnia Byerly Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Rickey Smith of Lonoke; grandson, Wayne Matthew Williford; siblings, Louie Eugene Smith, Don Smith, Carolyn Tabor, Patricia Dwiggins, and Ronnie Smith.

Leon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Smith, of Lonoke; daughters, Sandra Stout (Dan), Sara Williford, Cindy Ward, all of Lonoke and Christine McMurtry of Bigelow; one son, Cecil McMurtry (Gayle) of Cabot; siblings, Jerry Smith (Kathy) of Burlington, Colorado, Judy Zack (Howard) of Garner, North Carolina and Doris Howard of Tulsa, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

He worked for Jacuzzi Brothers as an electrician for many years while also owning his own business in heat/air and small appliance repair. Leon was a “kid at heart”. He enjoyed water skiing, flying remote planes, wood working, riding motorcycles and many other hobbies that he shared with his children and grandchildren over the years. He was also a model G-scale train enthusiast. Some of his other interests included listening to country and western music, gospel music and Charles Stanley. Leon also liked to play a little piano, harmonica and guitar.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home with interment to follow at Butlerville Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses that gave of their time and knowledge over the past many months. He will be missed by family and friends so much.
