James William (J.W.) True, age 91, of Cabot, departed his earthly life to be with Our Lord in eternity on October 20, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after his long illness with Alzheimer's Disease.
J.W. was born July 25, 1930 to Mary Magdeline Jacobs and John Owen True in Memphis Tennessee. He graduated from Humes High School where he met his future wife, high school sweetheart, Joan Hearn. J.W. and Joan were married January 13, 1951 and celebrated their Platinum Wedding Anniversary (70 years of marriage) this past January. He joined the United States Army later in 1951 where he served as SFC Master Sgt. For his service in Korea, J.W. received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star for Service, the National Defense Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge 1 st Award and the United Nations Service Medal.
J.W. and Joan made Memphis, Tennessee their home where they raised 2 sons, David and Tim. For 27 years, J.W. was a Unit Manager for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. During his career there, he received many sales awards including Sales Master Round Table and Chairman Council status earning he and Joan several exciting trips around the world.
After early retirement due to a stroke, J.W. worked for Kroger where he enjoyed competing with other employees for the biggest tips of the day. He later worked for Honda as a transport driver. Gardening was one of his favorite pastimes awarding him Yard of the Month three times. Golf and reading were also among his hobbies. J.W. was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Raleigh and Bartlett, TN where he was actively involved in Sunday School, Men's Club and on the United Methodist Board of Stewards. He also served as DeMolay Master Counselor of the McLemore Chapter. In December 2012, he and Joan moved to Cabot, Arkansas to be close to family where they became members of the Cabot United Methodist Church and both the Mixed Adults and Willing Hands Sunday Life Groups.
J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard True and sister, Frances Tanner. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan; brother, Jerry True (Sheila); sons, David True (Becky) and Tim True (Marty); grandchildren, Sarah Brown (Chris), John True (Nicole), Brandon True (Paige), Alex True (Paige); great-grandchildren; Austin Sharp, Faith and Emma Brown, Mason, Carson and Avery True, and Owen and Briar True. Many other relatives are left to cherish his memory also.

J.W said of his family "I have been blessed to be the father of 2 fine sons, grandfather of 4 perfect grandchildren, and great grandfather of 8! I have also been blessed to have a host of wonderful friends in my life!"
A celebration of J.W.'s life will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Cabot United Methodist Church, 2003 S. Pine St., Cabot, Arkansas 72023 (501-843-3541). Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cabot United Methodist Church Men at Work or to a charity close to your heart. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501-843-5816).
