Obituary

Janice Gail Ahart died peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on November 20, 2024.  She was 81 years old.  Gail was born May 11, 1943 in Searcy to the late Lonnie Bigham Horn and Georgia Dean Horn. She was preceded in death by brother, Lonnie Dean (Big Daddy) Horn, sister in love, Brenda Skillern Horn, and special friend, Ralph Balch. Gail is survived by her son, Wade Ahart, granddaughters, Taylor Senger (Max) and Sydney Ahart (fiancé, Dilon Burns). She is also survived by her brother, Gary Horn, sisters in love, Geraldine Horn and Lorraine Ahart, nieces, Lona McCastlain (Bruce), Donna Horn, Deana Wadkins (Jerry), nephews, Lonnie Horn (Cami), Brad Horn (Rachel), Bill Ahart, and the entire Ahart family that was very special to her as well as a host of friends and family.

In 1963, Gail went to work at Farm Bureau when she started as a secretary. She was very quick to tell you that she could type more than 120 words per minute.  Her work ethic was second to none.  It was not long before she worked her way into the underwriting department and did not stop there.  She worked her way up through the underwriting departments of a number of prominent companies including New Hampshire Life, Union Standard and Autobahn.  In 2000, she was named the Underwriter of the Year for the International Insurance Association for Arkansas. When she retired after her 40-year career, she was one of the most sought-after underwriters in the United States having been recruited on numerous occasions by headhunters attempting to hire her away from the lucky company that employed her at the time. She was respected by agents and associates throughout the State and Country.

She worked hard and played hard. Gail loved to travel and made trips to Europe visiting Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.  She traveled to Mexico, Canada and many states here in the U.S.  She loved sports especially the Razorbacks. She was quick to laugh and make people laugh.

She was tiny in stature, but what she lacked in size she made up in heart. She was tough having grown up with Dean and Gary Horn.  She loved her family more than anything and she was fiercely loyal to them. She would do anything for them, and they all knew it. She could keep a secret like no one else.  Every member of the family was her Angel. She answered every phone call with "How's my angel" no matter which family member was on the other end.  Of course, we all thought it was just for us.

Her pride and joy was her son, Wade Ahart, and her precious grand-daughters who took such great care of their Granny Gail over the years.  Her success as a mother is evident in the caliber of the son that she raised. She was so proud of the parent that he is and so thankful for the devotion that he and her grand-daughters showered upon her.

Gail had a renewed relationship with her Lord later in life through the love and support she experienced through special friendships.  The family is overjoyed that she was confident in her eternal salvation.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed their love and concern. A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for the care and kindness they showed Gail and her family.
