Jeanne Karen McCray, 68, of Austin passed away January 5, 2024. She was born April 30, 1955 on the Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota to the late Roy and Dorothy Whaley. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Whaley.

Jeanne worked for the Outdoor Recreation Department at the Little Rock Air Force Base for thirteen years. She was an avid interior decorator and loved design. In her spare time, Jeanne enjoyed painting and creating floral arrangements. Above all else, Jeanne loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Those left to cherish the memories of Jeanne include her husband, Gerald McCray; children, Jacob McCray, Joshua McCray, Carey (Jose) Ana Gomez, and Courtney  Garth; sister, Kathy Landis; and grandchildren, MaKayla, Ava, Lenny, Jose, and Dominic McCray.

Written by Jeanne's first son, Jacob: "Yesterday evening, I lost the first love of my life. My mother (Jeanne Karen McCray April 30, 1955-January 5, 2024) passed away after being in and out of a nursing home and hospital for the past 9 months. She fell at home last April and when the weeks started to turn into months I realized my mom wasn't going back home. I never mentioned any of this to you all because I never wanted any sympathy from anyone. If anything, the purpose of this post is to let you all know how lucky I am. My mom was very good to me, she raised me the right way! Now I gotta apply that same love to my son to help raise him to be a man the way my mom did for me. I'll always love you momma. Rest in peace, God has you now."

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home.
