John Anthony Slack, 78, of Lonoke passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was born June 17, 1948 in Whitesville, New York to the late Wayne B. and Dorothy V. Anthony Slack. Mr. Slack served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Old Austin Baptist Church. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a material handler, retiring after 40 years. He coached his son in little league baseball and was an avid sports fan, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved being outdoors, gardening and his dog. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slack was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Slack and Lewis Slack and a sister, Ruth Higgins.
Mr. Slack is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jean Nye Slack; his son, Arthur Slack (Amy) of Cabot; siblings, Linda Kulick of Gig Harbor, Washington and David Slack of Prattsburgh, New York as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Slack will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026 in the chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home with Brother Mark Martin officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.
