Obituary

Lawrence Gurvle Burns, 89, of Cabot, went to be with his Savior March 8, 2023.  He was born December 4, 1933 in Austin (16 th Section) to the late Chelcie and Annie Lucille Harris Burns.  Lawrence attended A & M in Monticello (now University of Monticello) and was the sophomore class president.  While at A & M, he worked with the agriculture farms taking care of chickens and cows for 40 cents and day and all the milk he could drink.  He graduated from the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.  While at U of A, he worked in Razorback Hall cafeteria for 55 cents an hour, plus sleeping at the fire station at night.  He was part of The Marching 100 Razorback Band.  After graduating, he joined the United States Army.  His career moves after the Army were as an employee of C & L Electric Coop, Southwest Supply Company in Pine Bluff, traveling salesman in Russellville and as an employee of Schering ASL in Springdale.  On February 7, 1972, he became an agent for New York Life and retained his license to sell insurance until the day he died.  He married Bernice McCurry on December 18, 1955 and they had four children.  They were together until her death in 2011.  On August 30, 2014, Lawrence married Martha Miller.  In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, the Razorbacks, flying and especially his family time.  Lawrence was a dedicated and faithful servant for the Lord for over eighty years.  He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Cabot since 1972 and was also a member of Gideon's International.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice McCurry Burns.

Left to cherish his memory and to miss him dearly are his wife, Martha Miller Burns; children, Larry Chelcie Burns (Karen) of Lexington, Kentucky, Jerry Allen Burns of Searcy, Sheila Burns Barnett (Jimmy) of Cabot, Laura Burns Baker (Todd) of Branson, Missouri, Lance Miller of Seattle, Washington and Renee Lynn Garcia of Sherwood; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Ruth Burns Probus of Austin, Arkansas, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Cabot.  Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Terry Bostick officiating.  Interment will be at 16 th Section Cemetery.  Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
