L.C. Carroll "Jack" Carrington, 89, of Cabot, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, January 26, 2021. He was born August 27, 1931 in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the late William Frank and Lytha Jane (Langley) Carrington.  In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his younger brother, William Travis "Pud" Carrington and son-in-law, David Howard.

Jack spent the majority of his life in the Cabot/Jacksonville area. He attended Cabot High School, playing football and becoming the first All-State football player from Cabot. He met and married the love of his life in high school, Betty Jo Murphy. They would have been married 70 years on March 3, 2021.

Before high school graduation, and before they married, he joined the Naval Reserve, but sea voyages convinced him he was not cut out for sea travel. So, he joined the Air Force in January of 1951, being assigned to Lowry Air Base in Denver, Colorado.  As an Air Policeman, he had the privilege of guarding President Eisenhower's plane whenever he visited Colorado.

Jack and Betty returned to Cabot, after four years in the military, where he attended State Teachers College in Conway (UCA) and played center on the football team. After graduation he began his coaching career in Jacksonville in 1959. From there he moved to Cabot as assistant football coach and high school girls' basketball coach. After a few years at Cabot, he moved to DeWitt as head junior high football coach and head high school boys basketball coach. Jack had the opportunity to return to Cabot in the middle of the school year in 1967 as Cabot High School head football coach. He went on to receive his Master's Degree in Administration from the University of Arkansas.  Beginning his career change in 1974, he served as assistant high school principal, junior high school principal, high school principal and administrative assistant to the superintendent while at Cabot until 1996. Jack was a role model and mentor to all who knew him, whether as a coach, teacher or principal.

He loved life and he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.  His greatest joy came from being with family and friends.  Spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids and great-granddaughters brought a big smile to his face. Jack loved playing games and had a wonderful sense of humor, always looking for the fun in life.  He was a longtime member of the Cabot United Methodist Church and served on several committees during his lifetime.

Jack is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Carrington; daughters, Debra (Mike) Polston and Jacque Howard; grandchildren, Nathan (Micha) Polston, Kevin (Melanie) Howard, Sara Polston and Mark Howard; great-grandchildren, June Howard and Cleo Howard, as well as many extended family members and friends.

The family suggests donations in memory of Jack Carrington be made to Cabot Scholarship Foundation, 401 N. Lincoln St., Cabot, AR  72023 or the Cabot United Methodist Food Pantry, 2003 S. Pine St., Cabot, AR  72023.
