Lt. Col. Lennart H. Bjerken, USAF (Retired) passed away peacefully Thursday, November 4, 2021 at his home in Cabot, Arkansas.  Len was born April 28, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Scandinavian parents, Gunnar Bjerken and Agnes Marie (Strobeck) Bjerken.

He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years as an officer and pilot.  He was a veteran of Korea, Vietnam and various other insurgencies around the world.  Len flew airlift aircraft, primarily the C-130.  After retirement from the Air Force, Len joined Lockheed Martin at Heddah, Saudi Arabia as an instructor pilot.  After three years Len returned home to Sumter, South Carolina.  While in Sumter he took a job as an engineer with the local public TV station transmitter site.  His life's journey ultimately took him to Little Rock Air Force Base where he returned to C-130 instructing by joining the newly formed C-130 Simulator Training School in Jacksonville, Arkansas.  Len retired from active employment on April 28, 2006 at age 75.

Preceding him in death were his parents Gunnar and Agnes Bjerken, his brother Ronald Coleman Bjerken and his grandson, Len Hawthorne.  Len is survived by his wife Bobbie Ann (Stafford) Bjerken, his sister Elaine Waldrup of New Port Richey, Florida, three daughters from a former marriage, Mrs. Katherine Lynne (Bjerken) Barrett and husband, Barry; Mrs. Janet Gail (Bjerken) Morlan and husband Richard and Rebecca (Bjerken) Brown, all of Sumter, South Carolina; three stepchildren, Kristy Gordon and husband Ron, Becky Smith and Robert Gay, Jr., along with beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Len was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cabot, Arkansas where he served as Financial Secretary for many years.  He was a lifetime member of the Order of Daedalian and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.    Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
