Obituary

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Marilyn Jean Kelley, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026. She was born January 27, 1931 in Newton, Iowa to the late Don and Beulah Talbot. She was a graduate of Newton High School and attended Simpson College majoring in piano and minoring in flute. Marilyn married Eugene (Gene) Karl Kelley on June 11, 1950, and they were married for 66 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and her sister, Dorothy Hesson Loehr. For 55 years, she was a gifted piano teacher and she touched the lives of many students, including two blind students. While living in Carthage, Marilyn was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Over the years, she gave her offering of music as a pianist and an organist for many schools, civic groups, and churches - including playing for weekly services at St. Luke's for 17 years.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Debbie Ann Johnson (husband – Bill) and Linda Jean Treadway (husband – John), plus her grandson, Bret Dague (wife – Kelley) and she was blessed to live long enough to enjoy her three great grandchildren as well – Eden, Fisher, and Amelia.
