Martha Lee Bailey Gately, 91, of Cabot, passed from this life, at her home, surrounded by family on September 1, 2020. Born to Gilbert Lee and Eulah Bailey on March 3, 1929, she graduated from Malvern High School in 1947. As a high school student she enjoyed playing basketball on the Leopard Basketball team. Martha loved her high school classmates and attended every class luncheon up into her 80's.
After graduation, Martha worked in Little Rock at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She met and married Hubert Austin "Babe" Gately from Cabot and started their family in North Little Rock. An attentive mother and homemaker, Martha was active at the Riverside Elementary School where she served as President of the PTA.
Later, Martha and Babe moved their family to Cabot. Martha was a proud Democrat and worked at the polls, even serving as the election sheriff. Voting was very important to Martha, and she served as a poll worker for over 30 years.
Along with many friends, neighbors, and extended family, Martha leaves behind: three sons Wayne, Gary and his wife Tammy, and Ronnie, all of Cabot, a daughter, Phyllis Fullerton and her husband Baker of DeWitt. Grandchildren: Austin and Jordan Gately, Micah Kelly and her husband Jesse, Brad Smith and his wife Jennifer, all of Cabot, two great grandchildren, Clay Smith and Madelyn Kelly, her sister, Shirley Bailey, and a brother in law, Harold Keeney, both of Malvern.
Preceding her in death are: her husband, son Troy, grandson Cole, nephew Bryson Alexander, sisters Glenda Bailey, Patsy Alexander, and Joan Keeney.
Martha enjoyed many hobbies and interests, but mostly enjoyed family adventures and projects. She was always there to care for family and friends. She made friends feel at home with her food and hospitality.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery Pavilion. Masks and social distancing will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cabot Scholarship Foundation, 401 N. Lincoln St., Cabot, AR 72023. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
