Mary Morris Cooper, 88, of Austin, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021. She was born December 8, 1932 in Harleton, Texas to the late Hershel and Ada Rebecca Jordan Morris. Mrs. Cooper proudly served her country in the Woman's Army Corp (United States Army) from 1955 to 1958. She was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas where she met her husband who served in the United States Army as well. She traveled the world with her husband throughout his 22 years in the Army and later while he worked as a field service engineer for 15 years. They lived and raised six children in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the United States. In between their travels abroad and when they settled in the Cabot area they were faithful members of Old Austin Baptist Church. Mrs. Cooper's unwavering faith exemplified a life strong in character and devotion to her Savior. She was consistently strengthened by her daily walk with The Lord in her role as a wife and mother. Her faithful prayer life kept a hedge of protection around her family through the many countries they lived and through times of volatility. She was a nurturing mother to her children and also to her children's many friends. Her children fondly remember their home was a safe haven where there was always food on the table, plenty of leftovers in the refrigerator, and room for any of their friends to stay over anytime. After her children were grown, Mrs. Cooper continued that spirit in caring for her pets. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Cooper and her brothers, Buck and Red Morris.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her children, Stephen Cooper (Debbie) of Jacksonville, Arkansas, John Cooper of Austin Arkansas, Matthew Cooper of Durham North Carolina, Elly Rumbach of Maumelle, Arkansas, Julia Jones (Monte) of Judsonia, Arkansas and James Cooper (Lorie) of Mascoutah, Illinois; grandchildren, Ashley Cooper, Jordan Rumbach, Ethan Jones, Seth Jones, Jacob Jones, Nathan Cooper and Ryan Cooper and her brother, Bert Morris of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home with Brother Mark Martin officiating.
