Obituary

Matthew “Matt” Corben Lowman, 38, of Cabot, left this life on Thursday, July 30, 2026. He was born November 18, 1987 in Quincy, Illinois to Stephen and Melissa Lowman (Corben). Matthew joined two older sisters, Liz and Stephanie, at their loving home in Lewistown, Missouri. Together they built one of the best families to be a part of. When you think of the Lowman family, the first things that come to mind are kindness, love, joy, compassion, and acceptance. Matt encapsulated all of these qualities and then some. As a little boy, he won “Little Mr. Lewistown” with his take of “Achy, Breaky Heart,” when asked what his favorite song was. He spent endless time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. One particular aunt, Margaret, was a cook, and Matt spent many days over there learning from her and helping her make delicious meals.

The Lowman’s made the move to Cabot, Arkansas in December of 1992. Matt started kindergarten at Eastside Elementary in 1993. He played baseball and peewee football during his time in elementary and middle school. Matt always had a creative side which started really showing when he started band in junior high. He started playing the trumpet, then switched to the Tuba pretty quickly. He was amazing! Matt made all region band every year, and second chair in the first band for all state band as a senior. He graduated from Cabot High School in 2006. He got a full scholarship for playing Tuba in the University of Central Arkansas Band. Once he started college band, he realized that he would rather follow his other passion… Cooking! He left UCA to attend Pulaski Technical College where he earned an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts. From that point on, Matt was a professional chef. He made a name for himself in the restaurant worlds of Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas, and Southwest Missouri. He worked at many high end restaurants including The Capital Hotel, South on Main, The Hermitage Hotel (Nashville), Loblolly, The Hive, Lady Slipper, Blake St, BCW, and Petit and Keet.

Matt found love when he met Abby Carr while working in Northwest Arkansas. They got married in March of 2019. For the next 6 years, he lived his life in Cassville, Missouri with Abby and their doggies. His pride and joy was the restaurant that he started with Abby in Cassville. It was called “The Farmer’s Daughter.” Matt was always creating new dishes, desserts, breads, and anything else that he could possibly come up with. Not only was he an excellent chef, but he was also an amazing teacher. He gladly shared his knowledge, techniques, and recipes with those he worked with, making lasting impressions on everyone. If you knew Matt, you knew true joy! He was always smiling! He passed that joy and happiness to all that he knew and met. If you’ve been to the Lowman’s for a BBQ or get together, you know that food, fun, and visiting was on the menu! We may have been nicknamed “The loudmouth Lowmans.” Matt was definitely the loudest! He especially LOVED cooking with his niece, Macy.

Matt is survived by his parents, Stephen and Melissa Lowman of Cabot, Arkansas; his sister and brother-in-law, Liz and Chris Smith and their daughter, Macy of Little Rock; his sister, Stephanie Lowman of Little Rock; his former wife and friend, Abby Carr of Cassville, Missouri, and too many family and friends to list. He was so loved.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Jamye Corben of Lewistown, Missouri and Donald and Marge Lowman of North Highlands, California, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future. Details will be posted on social media. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the education fund of his niece, Macy Smith. She is continuing the family creative line by going to college for art. Macy wants to continue his legacy by being the “Uncle Matt” in everyone’s life. https://www.ugift529.com/gifttpl/ugift/create/viewGiftCodeDetails.cs?ugiftcode=32R-56J
