Melba Rose
White
Jan 28, 1943 — Jun 11, 2024
Melba (Norman) White, 81, of Carlisle, passed from this life surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. She was born January 28, 1943 to Mary Hazel (Manion) Norman and Thomas Norman in Ward, Arkansas. She grew up picking cotton and working as a waitress to help support the family. Melba graduated from Cabot High School where she played basketball, a game she continued to watch late into life.
While they were both working at Parts Warehouse, Inc., Melba met and married her husband of 58 years, Don White. After raising two children, she continued to work for Parts Warehouse and retired after 39 total years of employment there. As a member of Sandstone Drive Church of Christ and Lorance Drive Church of Christ, she was active in prison ministry, teaching Sunday School, and helping anyone who needed it.
In 2006, Melba graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a degree in Criminal Justice. Outside of family milestones, this was one of her most memorable achievements. This achievement is evidence of her persistence and work ethic.
Melba is survived by her husband, Don White; a daughter, Tanya Hogan (Dan); a son, Mike White (Jennifer); grandchildren, Aaron White (Trishia), Chris Hogan (Jessica), Josh Hogan (Miranda), Brent Hogan (Annelise), Brianne Cessor (Jody), Madison White, and Drew White; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hazel Norman; father, Thomas Norman; brothers, Boyd Norman, Thomas Norman, Jr., and Donald Norman (Jane "Polly" Norman); and sisters, Joan Upchurch and Mary Frances Norman.
