Richard "Pops"
Alexander Gibbs
Jul 5, 1947 — Mar 16, 2026
Richard "Pops" Alexander Gibbs, 78, of Cabot, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026. He was born July 5, 1947 in Hicksville, Ohio to the late James and Margaret Shell Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Gibbs.
To say Richard Gibbs will be missed, would be an understatement. He left this world, but his legacy and memory will always be our world. He loved his wife faithfully always wanting to make sure she had what she needed and wanted. Pops adored proudly his son Russell and cherished his grandson Deagan with every fiber of his being. Pops was devoted to every member of his family, while mentoring many and sharing knowledge with everyone, his generosity knew NO bounds. To know Pops was to know a timeless, fearless, and true embodiment of family values. Pops was a classic family man and would give anybody anything if he could. He loved to visit. He was a natural story teller, setting the scenes as if you were there in time with him. He was a proud Gibbs who loved his momma, adored his daddy, and would do anything for his siblings, and enjoyed feeling the Gibbs pride his entire life. His hands operated many machines and touched many tools, but those same hands touched more hearts than we will ever know.
Surviving Mr. Gibbs is his wife of 58 years, Mary Alford Gibbs; son, Russell Gibbs (Dana) of Cabot; grandson, Deagan Gibbs; siblings, Ann Russell, Peggy Magdalleno and Danny Gibbs (Pat) and his dog, Bear.
Pops was a true one of a kind. This world will never be the same as we have truly lost one of the last living legends. Pops, you are our legendary legacy.
