Obituary

Richard Henry Tanner, Sr., 76, of Cabot, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on July 16, 2022.  He was born April 24, 1946 in Morrilton, Arkansas to the late William (Bill) and Elcy Little Tanner.  As a child, he trusted in Jesus alone as his personal Savior. After a childhood of chopping cotton and getting in trouble with his brothers and cousins, he graduated high school in Wardell, Missouri, and shortly after joined the United States Navy.  Richard served as an Aviation Fire Controlman aboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, he worked several jobs, including over 20 years with General Telephone.

Richard served the Lord at Charity Baptist Church in Ward, Arkansas, as well as the previous churches where he was a member. Among his many other ways of serving, he was a deacon, youth director, and Sunday School teacher at various times of his life. Second only to God was family. He always looked forward to reunions and get-togethers, and would do his part to make sure everyone else was there. He was auctioneer, and sometimes impromptu model, for the family reunion's auction. He loved hunting, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals (when they're winning) and Arkansas Razorbacks, and playing with his grandkids. Two of his favorite hunting spots were his deer camp near Monticello, Arkansas, and the Bridger-Teton Forest in Wyoming.  In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Tanner; brothers, Bill (Jean) Tanner, Joe (Doris) Tanner, Jack Tanner, and Don Tanner; brothers-in-law Dave Davidson, Otis Sartain, Keith Lunceford, Robert Smith, and John Pezzull and sister-in-law, Barbara Mize.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Tanner; children, Richard Jr (Lori) Tanner, Drew Tanner, Matthew (Danielle) Tanner, Jennifer Bradford and Robert (Cynthia) Rorie; grandchildren, Cecilia Tanner, Mollie Tanner, Sarah Tanner, Ryder Rorie, Ellis Rorie, and Everleigh Rorie;  sisters, Lorean Davidson, Mary Lunceford, Betty Smith and Eva Rico; brother-in-law, Ricky (Rita) Mize; sisters-in-law, Polly (Charles) Farris, Mavis (Fred) Laster and Betty Pezzullo; niece and caretaker, JoAnn Christie and a positively innumerable number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
