Ronnie Joe
Smith
Dec 22, 1958 — Jan 24, 2025
Ronnie Joe Smith, 66, of Cabot, passed from this life on Friday, January 24, 2025. He was born December 22, 1958, in Florence, Alabama, to Roy Howard Smith and Peggy Jean Jones Smith.
Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. He was a retired resource manager with the U.S. Civil Service and proudly served his country as a United States Air Force Master Sergeant before retiring.
Ronnie grew up in Killen, Alabama, where he developed an unwavering love for the University of Alabama's Crimson Tide football team. Whether it was hollering "Roll Tide!" during a game or bantering back and forth with fans of opposing teams, his passion for Alabama football was infectious and often brought people together. He especially enjoyed watching Nick Saban's era unfold and sharing those moments with family and friends.
When not cheering for the Crimson Tide, Ronnie could often be found on the golf course, where it "never rained", or enjoying his other favorite pastime, fishing. He also loved spending time at the bowling alley, cheering on his daughters and grandson with unmatched enthusiasm. These moments of joy and camaraderie embodied his larger-than-life personality and his deep love for his family.
Ronnie never knew a stranger. His quick wit, warm personality, and love for playful banter made everyone feel like an old friend. He had a special talent for finding common ground with people, whether in a grocery store line or enjoying breakfast at Waffle House.
He had an enormous heart and cherished his family above all else. Ronnie was a true family man who found joy in the small, everyday moments like Saturday afternoon football games, family dinners, card games with his kids and grandchildren, and playtime with his beloved dogs. Ronnie loved animals as much as people and often said his dogs—Missy, Dottie, Layla, and Charlie—were part of the family.
Ronnie took immense pride in his grandchildren and could always be found cheering them on, near or far, at anything they pursued. He had a knack for making everyone feel special and loved, always quick to say how proud he was of his daughters, Shelby and Caitlin, and their families.
Ronnie's warmth, humor, and steadfast love will be deeply missed. His loss leaves a void that words cannot fully express, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lisa Holmes Smith; two daughters, Shelby Hall (Richard) and Caitlin Dodson (Donald); three grandchildren, John Holliday, Harper Hall, and Seth Dodson; his brother, Gary Smith; mother, Peggy Jean Smith, and his cherished dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Howard Smith.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Ronnie's life. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
