Ruby Viola
Griffin
Oct 23, 1941 — Mar 8, 2025
Ruby Viola Griffin, 83, of Austin, left the earthly world to be with Our Heavenly Father on the morning of Saturday, March 8, 2025. She born October 23, 1941 in Bauxite and was the beloved daughter of Irene Stoops and Howard Moseley.
Ruby was known by a few affectionate nicknames, such as mom, granny and Rooby-Doo, to the many close friends and family who loved her dearly. She was raised in a home where she helped to raise her brothers. This helped her to gain the traits of being tough, stubborn and determined throughout the entirety of her life, which made her able and ready to provide for her family. Ruby was formally educated until the eighth grade, however, because of the traits that were instilled in her, she went on to get her GED in her thirties and had a successful career, while being a dutiful farmer's wife. She raised four children with all the motherly instincts that one could have. Those children went on to give Ruby four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one on the way, all of whom she cherished until her last day.
Ruby is survived by her children, Bobbie Burks (fiancé, Tommy Piper), Patrick Griffin (Missy), Shane Griffin and J'Anna Schlessinger (Kenneth); grandchildren, Travis Wolschlager, Dallas Platt (Courtney), Brody Platt (Kayley) and O'Neal Griffin; great-grandchildren, Roland Wolschlager, Henry and Cache Platt, Finleigh and, soon-to-be, Penelope Platt; her brother, Norman Moseley (JoAnn) and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Stoops and Howard Moseley; loving husband, Henry Allen Griffin; brothers, Vernon, Kenneth, Steve, Donald and Harold Moseley; great-nephew, Cole Griffin Gatley.
After many years of taking care of the home, children and her husband, Ruby joined the workforce, where she became a highly successful employee of Carrier, then later Remington. Ruby retired to take care of the love of her life, H.A., as his health declined over many years. In the seventeen years since H.A.'s passing, Ruby never went a day without mentioning how deeply he was missed and loved by her. Later, she became immersed in her grandchildren's lives, and enjoyed scrapbooking and crocheting, all while being fueled by a Honey Bun and Dr. Pepper, each and every morning.
Ruby was a very transparent woman. You knew if she liked you; you also knew, that if she told you to, "Get the h, e, double hockey sticks out of my face", then you probably should stay away for a bit. Another fun-loving, lighthearted thing that she might have told you if she did love you was, "Don't you make me kick your butt". This was heard often by her children, grandchildren, close friends and medical staff. She often proclaimed that, "you love your children, but your grandchildren are special", which she showed to each of them. Ruby will be missed by her loved ones, but is at peace and, without a doubt, dancing in the sky – with H.A.
