Sandra Kelley
Knight
May 27, 1935 — Jan 22, 2024
Sandra Kelley Knight, born Sandra Marlene Kelley, 88, of Cabot, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024. She was born May 27, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Luke E. and Louise Jackson Kelley. Sandra was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Cabot. She was an active member in the choir and had the voice of an angel. She believed and loved the Lord her entire life.
Sandra was voted most beautiful of her class and graduated from Messick High School in 1953. As high school sweethearts, at the ages of 17 and 19, Sandra married the love of her life, Warren and they remained married for 52 years.
In her early Memphis life, Sandra could be found in the cotton fields with her mom picking cotton. As a teenager, she won many radio singing competitions and could be heard on Memphis radio. She also had a stint as a switchboard operator. But shortly after marriage she began having children, eventually having three sons in Memphis before moving to Arkansas in 1959. Once in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Sandra was a full time stay at home mom to the three busy boys, Keith, Kent, and Kevin. Sandra was also involved in the community as a Cub Scout Den Leader. She loved singing. One could hear her voice in the church choir as a soloist, in cantatas, at weddings, and many other events. Sandra had a love for water as an avid water skier. Sandra successfully soloed in an airplane and eventually achieved her private pilot's license.
In 1971, Sandra and Warren, along with their three sons bought their first grocery store in Cabot. The family worked hard to build a successful business with a total of four Knight's Grocery stores. Knight's Grocery Stores served the Cabot, Beebe and Jacksonville areas for 45 years. Sandra worked in the stores in many special ways. She had a love for flowers and the floral departments. She planned all of the company parties and special events.
Sandra and Warren were known for their generosity in supporting the needs of local families, community, and surrounding area organizations such as churches, sport groups, schools, and civic needs. Sandra was passionate about many things in life, including her love of family and friends, sports, and especially the Razorbacks. She was a very patriotically involved person. She loved reminiscing with friends and family, hosting parties, cooking, and eating.
Warren and Sandra were instrumental in starting the Cabot Panther Scholarship Foundation which they helped fund for many years. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Sandra Knight, the family suggests Cabot Scholarship Foundation, c/o John Thompson, 305 Kingwood Circle, Cabot, AR 72023.
She will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her love, honesty, and generosity. Those left to cherish her memory and to miss her dearly are her sons, Keith Kelley Knight (Cherie) and Kent William Knight (Karen); eleven grandchildren, Krystal, Kasey, Kody, Win, Jennifer, and Kristopher Knight, Clint and Alexandra Diffie, Kourtney, Katlyn and Kaleb Knight; numerous great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends. Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by husband, Warren Knight; son, Kevin Knight and her parents, Luke and Louise Kelley.
