Obituary

Verla Carol Clayton Stump, age 87, of Cabot, Arkansas, met her Lord and Savior face-to-face on May 23, 2026. She was born February 28, 1939, in Syracuse, Indiana to the late Eston and Adah Clayton.  Verla married Kenneth "Ken" H. Stump shortly after graduating high school. They were married on December 28, 1959 and enjoyed 67 years of faithful marriage.

Verla loved being an Air Force Officer's wife.  Among her greatest joys were the years she spent with her husband, Ken, and children, while he was stationed at various military bases in Germany.  She also enjoyed living the military life in several other places in the United States.   Although she always considered Indiana "home," the Stump family established more permanent roots in Cabot, Arkansas, the summer of 1979. She was saved, baptized, and joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church in 1981.  She served faithfully there for many years until she was no longer physically able.  Verla was a true believer in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

She began her sales career at Sears, Fayetteville, NC, in 1976.  She was also employed at Kitty's Boutique, Merle Norman, and Marty's Hallmark in Cabot, Arkansas. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and The Gideons International Auxiliary.

Verla believed strongly in the strength of family.  She fiercely loved her husband, Ken, and their four children.  She kept her family members close to her heart, prayed for them, and instilled a strong sense of togetherness that is evident even today.   She was a true example of a mother who never gave up on wanting what was best for her "kids." Along with her parents, Verla was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick Clayton and Eldon Clayton  and a sister, Lucy Rogers.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Kenneth Stump; children, Victoria Carol Marshall (Harry) of Cabot, Arkansas, Kenneth Hugh Stump (Toni) of Butlerville, Arkansas, Kevin Harold Stump of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Kristine Heide Stump (Laura) of Little Rock, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Kristina Marshall, Casey Marshall (Lauren),  Kylie Canarina (Kit), and Bret Stump; and eight great-grandchildren, Grayson Shirley (Brooke), Faith Lopez (Jose), Hope Shirley, Miriam Canarina, Amelia Canarina, Lola Canarina, Lily Marshall, and Shannon Marshall.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. There will be visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock, Arkansas will be at a later date. Arrangements by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
