Wendell Dwight
Price
Jun 23, 1943 — Feb 2, 2026
This world lost a truly sweet soul on February 2, 2026, when Wendell "Dwight" Price made his way to Heaven surrounded by the love of his family. Dwight entered this life in Sidon, Arkansas on June 23, 1943, the youngest of four children born to Mary Frances Watkins Price and William Steven Opie Price. Preceding him to Heaven were his infant brother Edwin, his loving parents, grandson William, and his older sister Vivian. Surviving loved ones include the love of his life and mother of his children, Linda Baney, who provided companionship and loving care in his last months; daughters Marcia Childress [Larry]; Glenda Eversole; and Franny Morris; grandchildren Greg Lercher [Amanda], Ashley Mavity [Wylie], Tawny Beaulieu [Scott], Zeb Orrick, Ireland Eversole [Kyla], Jaden Eversole, and Maia Eversole; 11 great-grandchildren; and his older brother, Rabon "Dude" Price [Wanda].
We are having a private Celebration of Life party for family members on February 15, 2026, from 2 to 4 pm. A party to celebrate his life, not a funeral to mourn his loss. Our Daddy was a brilliant and multitalented man. He could put his hands on an instrument, fiddle with it for a minute, then belt out a cover like he'd been playing it forever. He was particularly talented on acoustic and steel guitar--as a mostly self-taught musician--and loved to entertain others with his music. He was not only musically talented; he was also a talented sketch artist, again, self-taught. He was appreciated across the state of Arkansas and beyond for his beautiful carpentry and cabinet making skills, taking pride in his work and the beauty of a finished project. He said that the skills needed for precise carpentry and as a musician were similar. Mom said that when a complex building problem needed to be solved, he would go to sleep then wake up in the morning knowing the answer. His math skills were so good that he prepared taxes for people [way back in the day before computers did all of the work] and took particular enjoyment from helping people get back more money than they expected at tax time.
Daddy had a keen intellect. While he was not formally educated beyond the 10th grade, he was self-educated all of his life. An avid reader, he enjoyed reading anything he could get his hands on, from the daily newspaper and legal dramas to encyclopedias and books about history. He particularly enjoyed true adventure/survival stories. And he was an adventurer himself at heart, from early childhood through his adult life. He t raveled, lived, and worked all over the place with stories he would share randomly, teaching us another thing we didn't know about our Daddy, the person. Daddy was also a survivor with a strong will to overcome adversity and to live. While he had his trials in life, he triumphed over them in the end. His best quality was his generous heart combined with his complete lack of judgment of others—true proof that a person's greatest strengths can come from the hardest-fought battles. His triumph in his hardest battle was a testament to his strength and an incredible gift to his family.
His legacy lives on through his grandbabies and great-grands and through his loving daughters--Marcia, Glenda, and Franny. Marcia is his heart and was a true Daddy's girl all of her life. Even as a baby, she would crawl over to the front door with perfect timing, waiting to greet him when he came home from work. In later years, she always did everything that she could to make sure that he had what he needed and was well cared for. She loved to make him his favorite foods and made a lot of chicken and dressing during his last weeks with his family. Glenda is his mind. Her avid love of reading anything and everything came straight from him, and she and Daddy were often seen at Granny's house, each reading a World Book Encyclopedia at the same time throughout her growing up years. She loved hearing his stories during their many rides to and from his medical appointments and during his hospital stays. He always made it a point to tell his doctors that she was his "rock." Franny is his adventurous spirit. She found this out as a child when she climbed to the top of the water tower in Searcy and found his name up there—ha! Franny has always had Daddy's Huckleberry Finn adventurer's heart. Her last visit home to Arkansas was a great comfort to him as she provided him with her 5-star tender loving care. He was heard more than once to say "where's my baby?" We will miss his quiet presence in our lives. As Marcia said, "It's comforting to know he's at peace and in a more glorious place than we can imagine…We have to find a way to live our lives without [our] Daddy. He was one of a kind."
