Obituary

Wilma "Willie" Dean Guthro, 85, of Cabot, passed reluctantly from this life here with her children into her heavenly life on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Willie and her twin sister Betty Jean Beck were born on May 4, 1940 to Arvel Edgar and Ruby Mae Yarberry-Beck of Scott. Betty Jean passed weeks after their birth and after several attempts, Willie was blessed with a sister, Martha (Robert) Finch. Along with her parents and twin sister, Willie was preceded in death by Gary Joseph Raymond Guthro, her handsome husband and the father of her unusually attractive children.

Willie, also known as Mom, Momma and Nanny, is survived by her four children, Edgar Victor (Debbie) Guthro of Boiling Springs, South Carolina (we call him Ed), Cynthia Ann (Mark) Harbour of Jacksonville, (Cindy), Joseph Raymond Guthro (we call him lots of things but mostly just Joe), and the baby of the family, Kelly Jean (Billy) Martin (mom called this one her blizzard baby).  Willie is also survived by a slew of grandchildren, Amber (Brent) Dawes, Michael (Erica) Speer, Blake (Lindsey) De Jesus, Miles Guthro, Landon Guthro, and Emily (Patrick) Boyd; great-grandchildren in no particular order because they are like herding cats, Kennedi, Grayson, Xavier, Thatcher, Addison, and Stella; a host of relatives, nieces, and nephews spread far and wide, but still near and dear, especially her nephew Jon (Bonnie) Finch and her Aunt Linda (David) Holloman. Willie has a slew of friends whom she loved dearly and would want all of you to know (you know who you are) that you made her life joyous.

Willie loved nothing as fiercely as she loved her children and grandchildren, but caregiving was a close second. She and Gary along with their first born, Ed, moved to Montana after Gary left the Air Force. While in Montana, three more children were added to the mix. Willie began working as a caregiver in a nursing home where after her shift, she would go home, bake cookies, then gather the family up and return to the nursing home where Gary would play big band music on the piano while everyone danced and cookies were eaten. Later, after returning to Arkansas, she would continue working in a nursing home along with her sister in England, AR. There, the tradition of taking her family to visit the residents continued. It was also while working there that Willie and her sister decided to become licensed nurses and on October 12, 1979, they became licensed to poke, prod, pinch and care for any and all who were ailing.  After 35+ years of on call, many girl's (nurse gang) trips, tired nights, aches and pains, heartbreaks and triumphs, Willie finally decided to retire and enjoy the fruits of her labors, mostly just her grandkids.

Although we are deeply saddened by the passing of our little mother, we are joyful knowing she is still with family and our Lord in heaven. In her last years she struggled with Alzheimer's disease and Dementia. We struggled with her as she slowly changed from who she was into who she is. We promised her from the beginning we would never leave her, we would be with her every day, and we would always look out for her and take care of her. That was a promise we kept. We look forward to telling her "I told you so". In the meantime, look out Daddy, here she comes and don't believe everything she tells you about us!
